Killiney Hill.

If you ask Dubliners for their favourite walk, Killiney Hill will often make the list.

And it’s one of Maeve’s favourites, appearing in several of the books.

The views stretch across Dublin Bay towards Bray Head and the Wicklow Mountains. On a clear day, the landscape seems to go on forever. On a rainy day, the sea turns silver and the mountains disappear into the clouds.

That's one of the reasons she keeps coming back. The view is never quite the same twice.

About halfway up the hill is a coffee shop that's perfect for a quick stop before tackling the rest of the walk. At weekends, it's usually full of chatters, dog owners, and families heading for the playground nearby. It's also a popular destination for slightly hungover parents hoping their energetic children will wear themselves out before lunchtime.

When Maeve needs to clear her head, this is one of the places she often comes. The fresh air helps untangle problems, and the changing views have a way of putting everything into perspective.

The climb to the top is part of the experience. Fortunately, there's a coffee shop halfway up for anyone who needs encouragement.

Rain Over Dublin Bay

One of Maeve's favourite things about Killiney Hill is how quickly the weather can change. Sunshine can disappear behind dark clouds in minutes, transforming the entire landscape.

On days like this, the sea glows beneath the storm clouds while the mountains fade into the mist. It's dramatic, beautiful, and unmistakably Irish.

Even Nidge enjoys the walk, though he's usually far more interested in meeting other dogs than admiring the scenery.

Different Day, Different View

On a clear day, the views stretch across Dublin Bay towards Bray Head and the Wicklow Mountains.

Looking south, Maeve can see Bray Head rising in the distance. Every time she visits, she tells herself she'll make that walk next.

So far, Killiney Hill keeps winning.
