🧶 The Cowl that wrote itself into a mystery

Before I ever wrote a single chapter of Purls and Peril, I had already designed the cowl pattern. It was just another project on my needles - soft yarn, a rhythm of stitches, and the satisfaction of something cozy taking shape.

But when I sat down to write the book, something unexpected happened. The cowl seemed to wander straight off the pattern page and into the story. I hadn’t planned for it to play a role, but there it was - wrapped around a character’s neck and stitching itself into the mystery.

That’s the magic of both knitting and writing: sometimes the work takes on a life of its own. A simple design becomes more than just a piece of knitting - it becomes part of the fabric of the story.

If you’ve read Purls and Peril, you’ll spot the cowl. It’s more than an accessory - it’s a thread that ties the story together in ways I never expected when I first cast on.

Writing has given me a way to merge two passions, one old - knitting, and one new - writing, into something that feels entirely my own. Just as each stitch builds a cowl, each word builds a mystery, and I love watching the two worlds overlap. My hope is to keep writing mysteries and designing patterns side by side, letting them inspire one another as the journey continues.
